Hi Laurie,
Well, it didn't start out as a 'fast' I just got really busy at work and didn't have time to do anything else. Then when things let up a bit I was so far behind on my reading that I gave up. Hope you and Paul are well, I read his blog on being layed-off and how he was writing, that’s great that he is using the time to do something productive. My step-daughter also got layed-off recently so we are praying for her to land on her feet, God knows we are in no position to be able to help her financially.
God bless,
-jim

Well that explains where you've been. You're not the only one I know who's been on an internet "fast" because they've gone overboard. I'm glad you're back and hope you will be able to continue with a new measure of temperance.

According to wikipedia we are Gen-X but I'm with you as I thought Gen-X was earlier. Although if boomers were post WWII and generations are 20 years this makes sense...

"In the 1991 book Generations, William Strauss and Neil Howe call this generation the "13th Generation" and define the birth years as 1961 to 1981"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_X

This all makes me think of the Who song...

Paul Young seems to have issues with all authority because he believes authority to be incompatible with love. (I am basing this on statements made by the God-characters in The Shack) In the book the Trinity deny that they wield authority either as between each other or in relationship to creation. Instead of a hierarchy they are all part of a co-equal circle of love. Salvation consists of drawing humans into this circle. I think this is the true significance of the choice of a woman to portray the Father. Young wanted to show God as something other than an authority figure.

Needless to say, this sweeping denial that God's love can co-exist with His authority owes nothing to scripture and everything to the limitations of Young's own imagination. I believe that the damage done by his early experiences is showing here. It is unfortunate that he has been unable to rise above it. If you feel led to pray for him in any area, I think this is it.
